The 'Saved By The Bell' Reboot Has Officially Been Confirmed – Here's Everything We Know

This year's current obsession with nostalgic TV reboots has just peaked: Saved By The Bell is definitely coming back and we finally have details about what's in store.

YESSS.

Confirming the rumours that began swirling last week, the hit Nickelodeon TV show is getting revived at NBC Universal's newly-named Peacock Streaming Service.

Original cast members of the hit 90s comedy series, Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, will be reprising their roles as A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano.

Tracey Wigfield (the Emmy-winning 30 Rock writer and Great News creator) has been lined up for show running duties, while sources say the streaming service is in talks with other original cast members, including Mark-Paul Gosselaar who played Zack Morris.

But where will the sequel pick up?

The new straight-to-series comedy is said to explore what happens when California Governor Zack Morris (originally played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar) gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools.

Gov. Morris proposes they send the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state - including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality.

The plot weirdly reminds us of Netlfix's teen drama Elite, which landed on Netflix for its second series just last week.

We have to admit we didn't expect Saved By The Bell to deal with such serious social topics. And Zack Morris the elected governor?! Still, we're excited to see Tracey Wigfield's contemporary take.

The reboot was first teased by ex-cast members at FAN EXPO in Canada this month.

Comicbook.com report Mark-Paul said: "There's talks, there's always talks. I just heard recently there's talks."

However, Elizabeth added that the reunion plot "has to be right" before anything goes ahead.

The show followed the six friends as they navigated life at an American Bayside High School, equipped with all the much loved cliches: from the hunky jock to the stunning cheerleader.

The original series stopped filming back in 1993, although it had a huge fan base long afterwards thanks to TV reruns.

Meanwhile, follow-on shows, The College Years and The New Class also extended the show's popularity up into the early 2000s.

More details when they come!
