Prepare to get nostalgic, people.

Everyone's favourite children's book character, Pippi Longstocking, is now going to star in a new movie and it's giving us all the nostalgia.

Studiocanal and Heyday Films - the team behind smash hit Paddington - have confirmed their plans to reimagine the children's classic about the fiery red head, that originally ran from 1945 to 1948.

The strongest girl in the world, nine-year-old Pippi, was first imagined in Swedish author Astrid Lindgren's beloved 1940s franchise: Pippi Longstocking, Pippi Goes On Board and Pippi In The South Seas.

Three short stories then followed along with a string of picture book adaptations.

David Heyman, who set up film production company Heyday, said he is "determined to honour" the author's "vision" for Pippi.

He added: "I am thrilled to collaborate with Thomas Gustafsson, Olle Nyman and their team at the Astrid Lindgren Company and our partners at Studiocanal on this film adaptation of the brilliant and timeless Pippi Longstocking.

"Astrid Lindgren's books have been translated around the globe for many years - a testament to her vision which we are determined to honour with a new film."

So far, there is very little information about who will be starring in the movie and when it will be released, with the production only in its early stages.

However, the author's grandson Nils Nyman said he had absolute faith he film would be a success.

He commented: "In David Heyman, with his impressive track record of bringing great literary works to the screen, together with Studiocanal, we are confident that we have found a team that can understand and appreciate the full value of Pippi Longstocking and develop films that capture both the playfulness and the gravity in my grandmother's works".

We're so ready to see a 2019 vision of Pippi on the big screen.
