NTA viewers were moved to tears by Emmerdale actor James Moore's inspirational speech as he picked up the prize of 'Best Newcomer' last night.

James, who kicked off his career as Ryan Stocks in the ITV soap last year, was rushed onto stage on the back of a friend to accept the award, who spun him around in excitement.

The actor, like his Emmerdale character lives with Cerebral Palsy, made a heartwarming speech as he accepted the prestigious prize.

"Thank you so much, this means the world to me, oh my god," said the actor.

"A year ago, I never thought I'd be here, you know what I mean? And for Emmerdale to take on someone with a disability shows the progression that we need in this day and age."

And on his own Twitter account, James thanked fans for their support after the ceremony.

Posting a picture of his award with two of his soap co-stars, the actor wrote: "You did this. You, out there, reading this. This was you. Thank you."

Fans shared their excitement over James' win on Twitter as the scenes aired.

One person exclaimed: "Amazing win for @jamesmooreactor at the NTA's. Hugely important character on Emmerdale, representing people with disabilities on prime time and so great for him too! Congrats James."

"Little bit emotional that James Moore won the NTA! Hard work pays off and it's just so well deserved!" added another.

James' NTA speech echoed what he had to say after he was nominated for 'Best Newcomer' last year.

Speaking on The Richard Stead Breakfast Show in October, the actor explained: "If I won in January, I wouldn't have even been in Emmerdale for a year. That just blows my mind right there - I haven't even been on the soap for a year and I've already been nominated, let alone winning an NTA.

"But it would mean a lot for people with disabilities. It would be a big step in terms of how far the culture has come in accepting disability in media."

This is the kind of progression television needs. Congratulations again, James!
