'The Umbrella Academy' fans, rejoice, because the Netflix series has been renewed for season two.

The comic book series won legions of fans when it was first launched on Netflix, and the second series will see stars including Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min reprising their roles, with some more famous faces set to join for the latest installment.

News of the show was announced on Instagram, where a short video of the characters was shown along with the message "Hello. Season 2. Goodbye."

A similar announcement on Twitter elicited equally joyous responses from fans, who begged: "please tell me it's not an april fool" and "this better not be a late april fools joke". The kind people running the account reassured fans "pinky promise this is not a joke" and "that was yesterday. we are ded serious".

The show is based on the comic book series of the same name created and written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics.

The first season was based around an intriguing premise: on the same day in 1989, forty-three babies are born to random, unconnected women - and none were pregnant earlier that morning.

Seven of the children are adopted by a billionaire who prepares his children to save the world.

"Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father's passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death," the official Netflix description reads.

"But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse."
