Netflix's latest true crime documentary Abducted In Plain Sight has been described as 'jaw-dropping' by fans, centring on a young girl getting kidnapped not once, but twice by the same man.

The hour and a half-long feature-length documentary reveals the story of a young girl who was kidnapped by a family friend after he gained the trust of her parents.

The documentary will have you on the edge of your seat if the above trailer is anything to go by.

In 1970, the Broberg family met a man who ended up becoming a close friend of theirs, but they didn't realise that the friendship was simply part of his plan. The documentary reveals how the family were subject to brainwashing, blackmail, arson, death threats, and alien abduction.

Robert "B" Berchtold was a paedophile who wanted to find a family that he could befriend and manipulate so that he could kidnap a child.

One unusual trait of Berchtold was that he had a family of his own, which obviously made him less suspicious and helped him gain the family's trust.

Berchtold's main interest was the Broberg's 12-year-old daugher Jan, and he sexually seduced both parents Mary Ann and Bob Broberg in order to gain access to her.

In 1974, Berchtold kidnapped her and fled to Mexico where he tried to brainwashed her into believing she was an alien, and that she needed to conceive a child with him by her 16th Birthday to save the residents of her home planet.

However, as he had manipulated the family and gained their trust, her parents didn't call the police until a few days had passed.

In order to add some balance to the story, director Skye Borgman highlights that the era was naïve and it was a time before "paedophile" was a common word or concept.

Jan was returned five weeks later, and told her parents and the courts that "nothing had happened" which paved the way for Jan's second abduction.

Berchtold abducted Jan again in 1976, and secretly enrolled her in a Catholic girls' school in California, where he visited her on weekends and posed as her father.

The documentary contains intimate one-on-one interviews with Jan, her parents, sisters, and the FBI investigator still haunted by this case.

Released on the 15th January, the documentary already has five star reviews on social media.

One fan wrote: "Abducted In Plain Sight on Netflix is an absolutely wild ride isn't it?"

Another added: "Abducted In Plain Sight may be the strangest program I've ever watched. I'm having to start it again purely cos I'm just like... What?"

A third wrote: "Abducted In Plain Sight documentary has truly left me speechless."
