January can be a pretty bleak month as we swap turkey dinners for a diet of beans on toast - but it also gives us a fantastic excuse to stay in with a stream of new TV to watch.

With that in mind, Netflix is already teasing its January offerings and one series that has piqued our interest is nail-biting thriller Messiah, which is coming to the streaming service on January 1st, 2020.

The high-octane show, which stars Michelle Monaghan as CIA officer Eva Geller, has been dubbed a "provocative and suspenseful thriller that explores the power of influence and belief in the social media age".

We're sold.

The series follows Monaghan's character Geller who uncovers information about a man, played by Mehdi Dehbi, gaining international attention through acts of public disruption.

Growing suspicious, she begins an investigation into his origins. As he continues to cultivate followers who allege he's performing miracles, the global media become increasingly beguiled by this charismatic figure.

Soon realising that time isn't on her side, Geller has a need to unravel the mystery of whether he really is a divine entity or a deceptive con artist capable of dismantling the world's geopolitical order.

As the story unfolds, multiple perspectives are interwoven including that of an Israeli intelligence officer, a Texas preacher and his daughter, a Palestinian refugee and the journalist, who covers the story.
