Netflix has announced the release date for a brand new natural history documentary voiced by David Attenborough.

The Netflix original series Our Planet will be released on April 5 2019, and it's set to be one of the streaming service's most popular shows.

The eight-part series will allow audiences to explore the planet's most precious species' and fragile habitats n a way they have never been able to before.

Our Planet has been a huge project for Netflix, as it has taken four-years to film 50 countries across all of the world's continents.

Over 600 members of crew worked on the documentary, and they filmed for more than 3500 days in total.

Viewers will be able to explore the planet with Attenborough as their guide as the series looks at the diversity of habitats around the world - moving from the remote Arctic before heading to the oceans, the vast landscapes of Africa and the jungles of South America.

The ambitious series has been created in collaboration with Silverback Films, whose director, Alastair Fothergill, was the creator of the original Planet Earth and Blue Planet series.

92-year-old Attenborough is hoping the series will show audiences how fragile the world is, and encourage them to pay attention and address the problems humans have created for the world.

Speaking about the series David Attenborough said: "Our Planet will take viewers on a spectacular journey of discovery showcasing the beauty and fragility of our natural world.

"Today we have become the greatest threat to the health of our home but there's still time for us to address the challenges we've created, if we act now.

"We need the world to pay attention. Our Planet brings together some of the world's best filmmakers and conservationists and I'm delighted to help bring this important story to millions of people worldwide."

David Attenborough fans don't have to wait until April to get their wildlife fix, though, as his latest documentary Dynasties will be broadcast this weekend on Sunday on BBC One.

Each of the five episodes focuses on a different species - chimpanzees, lions, emperor penguins, tigers and painted wolves - with a look at how they're ensuring the survival of their dynasty.
