On the show, the Yale University School of Medicine clinician chats to the people with mysterious, sometimes life-threatening illnesses and puts their symptoms out to a massive audience in the hopes of finding a diagnosis.

The emotional series connects patients with other people - other doctors, researchers and people who have dealt with similar issues - around the world, who recognise symptoms that may seem rarer than they are in response to Dr Saunders call.

Once equipped with the insight they've been searching for, viewers see what the patients opt to do with that information.
