Mel And Sue Have Officially Left The Great British Bake Off
Safe to say that fans weren't happy when it was announced earlier that The Great British Bake Off would be moving to Channel 4. But just as we were beginning to come round to the idea of the same show but with adverts, it's been announced that our beloved presenters Mel and Sue will be leaving the show when it moves channels.
In a joint statement the pair expressed their unhappiness at the show's move and described BBC One as the 'home' of The Great British Bake Off:
We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home.We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 at its peak. We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps. We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.
Safe to say Channel 4's version is going to be a very different thing to the Bake Off we've come to know and love. If Mary and Paul end up leaving, it's basically going to be an entirely different show. Whether that'll mean it's going to fall flat like the rebooted Top Gear or rise to new heights, only time will tell.
Are you sad about Mel and Sue's departure? Who would you like to see replace the cheeky pair? Let us know in the comments!
