Married At First Sight couple Ben and Stephanie Jardine have finally begun their divorce proceedings, and the former couple are apparently 'overjoyed' to be officially going their separate ways after their wedding last year.

The pair tied the knot without ever having met on the Channel 4 show in December 2017, but their romance ended after just one month.

They both were spotted leaving their solicitor's office in London on Monday evening, each beaming from ear to ear, reports OK! Magazine.

While they have officially started divorce proceedings, things won't actually be finalised until January 2019, meaning they both have a while to wait until things are all done and dusted.

And now, Ben has broken his silence on the divorce proceedings shortly after his trip to the solicitors.

Taking to his Instagram story, he shared a selfie, adding the caption: "#ToughDayAtTheOffice."

While they looked like the perfect match at the altar, things didn't exactly turn out as they would have liked, as Ben branded his marriage to Stephanie 'a chore'.

Ben initially confirmed their split during an interview with Fubar Radio, where he confessed that he didn't want to 'waste Stephanie's time'.

He told hosts Lizzie Cundy and Stephen Leng: "Stephanie and I are still friends but I couldn't give her what he wanted and what she needed, and time is of the essence. And why waste someone's time if it's not there?"

Reports at the time suggested that it was a kiss shared between Ben and a friend that marked the end of his marriage to Stephanie.

Speaking to the Sun, Ben said: "It happened in December and I was still married to Steph.

"We were meant to be seeing how things went but we both knew [it was over]... we just needed closure and I can only apologise.

"I had all these scars on my heart that I thought had healed, but it had been smashed to pieces.

"When my ex left me she took my best years, and there was no way I would ever take Steph's best years from her."

He added that while Steph was 'perfect' and 'a wonderful person', he just couldn't see things working out with her.
