Joining a parent on a double date isn't really the traditional route to finding love. And when Thursday's First Dates' Valentine's Day Special sent Kurtis and his mother Chi Chi out in force to find romance together, the predictably bumpy ride had viewers in stitches.

Fifty-year-old Chi Chi and her 25-year-old son, Kurtis walked into the restaurant together joking about the kind of dates they'd like for each other, which really resonated with viewers of the cult TV show who'd dread dating alongside a family member.

Librarian, Kurtis, said he wanted to find someone who was "respectful and has family values". To which his mum added: "Because one day I am looking forward to becoming a grandma."

While Kurtis popped out to the toilet, his mum's date, 57-year-old Lincoln walked into the restaurant and took a seat to chat to mum Chi Chi at the bar before they were seated at their table.

But the mum-and-son date night soon got awkward when Kurtis returned to his seat from the bathroom and overheard Lincoln making a dirty joke.

Chi Chi quipped: "Don't worry I'm not going to bite", to which Lincoln replied: "Maybe later," unaware that her son was sitting nearby.

Kurtis looked understandably annoyed, while lover-boy Lincoln seemed sheepish when he realised who the gentleman was sitting across the bar from him.

A near-by waiter commented: `"Well, that was awkward."

But you might have guessed that Twitter loved it.

The romance started to blossom when the mother-son duo parted ways and took their seats at separate tables.

In typical mum style, Chi Chi struggled to focus on her own date at some times during the evening as she saluted her son from across the restaurant to signal she approved of his date.

But the joined-at-the-hip child-parent team were able to sneak away from their dates to have a quick chat and giggle in the ladies' toilets about their potential love matches with Kurtis admitting that he had forgotten his date's name.

Car saleswoman, Jaleesa (yes Kurtis, that's her name), previously said she wanted to find a man who '"looked after their mum. If they care for their mum, they'll care for me."

Well we think she hit the jackpot there - even if he can't quite recall what her name is.

Both dinner dates were successful with both couples saying they wanted to see each other again.

In fact, when the credits rolled at the end of the episode, it was revealed that Chi Chi and Kurtis had a second double date with the pair.

First Dates is available on All 4.
