J.K. Rowling Confirms Dumbledore And Grindelwald Had A 'Passionate Love Relationship'

After years of fan speculation, J.K. Rowling confirmed that Harry Potter franchise characters Albus Dumbledore And Gellert Grindelwald did have a "sexual" relationship, made of "passion" and "love".

The author of the hugely successful fantasy world said there was a "sexual dimension" to the relationship between the two powerful wizards, which wasn't explicitly touched on in the Fantastic Beasts franchise - must to the frustration of Potterheads.

However, speaking recently on a special feature on the Blu-ray release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, she said: "Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship.

"But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can't know, you can believe you know."

Rowling continued: "So I'm less interested in the sexual side - though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship - than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationship."

Director David Yates added: "This is a story about two men who loved each other, and ultimately have to fight each other. It's a story for the 21st century."

"I was very conscious of wanting to try to suggest that Dumbledore still held this affection for Grindelwald," Yates said, explaining things further about their relationship. "There was not just regret, but there was still a love that existed between the two men."

Rowling previously revealed that the Hogwarts headmaster was gay in 2007 during a Q&A after publishing the franchise.

The author also once called Dumbeldore and Grindelwald's relationship a "great tragedy".

Dumbledore was played by Richard Harris in the first and second movies, Michael Jambon in the remaining, with Jude Law picking up the role for Fantastic Beasts. Meanwhile, Johnny Depp portrays Grindelwald in both Fantastic Beasts flicks.

Somewhere along the line, the once lovers turned into great enemies who engaged in an epic duel, which will all hopefully be covered in a third Fantastic Beasts movie.
