We've seen some out-there stuff on Strictly (Anton du Beke quite literally sweeping the floor with Ann Widdecombe in 2010, anyone?) but nothing quite so bonkers as Max George and Dianne Buswell's bizarre Simpsons routine.

Is it slapstick? Satire? Either way, it sure hits different - and the video has gone viral, with viewers split down the middle.

Watch the full routine here:

Dressed up as Homer and Marge Simpson in head-to-toe yellow face paint, the pair of Strictly contenders pulled out a series of moves to the Simpsons theme tune that left fans of the show baffled.Along the way, we saw Max wearing a padded belly as Homer, gyrating his hips as he pretending to play Dianne's leg like a saxophone. Just... why?

At another point, the duo were seen riding a couple of inflatable doughnuts.

Fans called the Simpsons-inspired routine 'disturbing' and 'surreal' (

Not to mention the Springfield can-can, which left us reeling. It's a miracle that Dianne was able to keep her enormous blue Marge wig on, tbh.

However, the judges certainly saw the funny side of the routine, with the trio of judges - Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas - each awarding a score of eight out of 10 for effort. Not bad, eh?

Max and Diane were left with a very reasonable score of 24/30, midway up the leaderboard.

Fans took to Twitter to air their thoughts on the kooky routine - and while some loved it, others called it 'disturbing', with some even comparing it to a 'nightmare'.

One wrote: "Will never forget the horror of turning on the telly and seeing that simpsons dance on strictly. Haunting and disturbing."

"I had nightmares about the Strictly Simpsons dance," agreed another.

While a third chimed in: "The Simpson's dance was weird and a little disturbing, like weaving in and out of a feverish sleep when you're ill. Made me feel a bit uncomfortable."

Others, though, were more positive about the routine, calling it a 'guilty pleasure.'

"Max and Dianne's Simpsons dance was a guilty pleasure for me. Grew up watching the show so it felt cool seeing it come to life," said one viewer.

"Bit behind on strictly because I had to pop out to pick up the shopping but I've seen glimpses of the simpsons nightmare and I can't WAIT," enthused another.

Strictly, you've surpassed yourself with this one.
