On last night's Love Island, we witnessed one of the worst chat-up lines in the history of the show as fans watched new boy Marvin Brooks' cringeworthy attempt to crack on with Amber Gill.

Cornering the sassy beauty therapist by the fire pit, 29-year-old Marvin opened by declaring Amber was "damaged" following her ill-fated romance with Michael Griffiths (err, what?), before suggesting she fancied him despite a lot of evidence to the contrary.

The footballer had sought advice from fellow Islander and notoriously unlucky-in-love Anton Danyluk, 24, before spectacularly crashing and burning - much to the amusement of the other islanders.

The boys watched in disbelief as Marvin awkwardly pulled Amber for a chat, with Ovie declaring that he was 'f***ed'.

He started off badly, opening with: "I can say I fancy you, I just can't say I like you", prompting Amber to reply "what?!" in disbelief.

Digging a deeper hole, Marvin continued: "You intrigue me. You're like that locked door that I kind of want to know what's behind. It's got a few locks on it and a few cracks at the bottom that are slightly damaged."

Amber was visibly unimpressed by being called "damaged", replying: "I'm absolutely not damaged in any way, shape or form. The door is brand new."

Viewers of the show took to Twitter to praise 21-year-old Amber's savage response to Marvin and his disastrous chat-up lines, saying the pair would never get together.

One fan wrote: "Mild Marvin said that he's a former f*ckboy, called Amber a broken locked up door and then brought it home by saying that he thinks she fancies him!" Another added: "Am I the only one that felt the second hand embarrassment from Marvin's chat with Amber".

A preview for Wednesday night's episode appears to show that Amber still has feelings for former partner Michael, 27, and some fans believe this could be down to Marvin's advances.

Meanwhile two new bombshells, Francesca Allen and Chris Taylor, have just entered the villa - so it seems like there is plenty more drama to look forward to.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
