Britain's Got Talent contestant Colin Thackery has won the hearts of fans, with many now proclaiming him a 'national treasure'.

In the league Sir David Attenborough and fellow BGT homegrown talent Susan Boyle, the 89-year-old has achieved the NT status following his heartbreaking performance on Wednesday night's semi final.

In an emotional tribute to their sweethearts, the war hero and his backing vocals, the Chelsea Pensioners, sang 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn. And OMG.

Colin's performance of the 1939 song won him a standing ovation and some huge compliments.

Head judge Simon Cowell said: "That was bloody brilliant. What I really loved about that is it just reminds everybody what people like you did all those years ago and you're still standing and it was such a sincere performance."

Meanwhile, Alesha Dixon said: "There's just something about you, you have won our hearts and I know everyone watching at home is in love right now."

Amanda Holden agreed: "You and your colleagues, friends, are literally the backbone of this country, if it wasn't for you we wouldn't be here. I think if you've lost somebody that song is the song, isn't it?"

While David Walliams said he reckoned Colin could go all the way to winning the show.

The performance secured Colin his place in the final alongside 'judges' choice', Kojo Anim, who beat out John Archer. When Ant and Dec asked Colin how he felt about his finalist status, he said: "Just starting to sink in."

Colin is a Korean war veteran who now lives at The Royal Hospital in London. The pensioner met his wife Joan at dance camp and the pair married in 1950. Sadly, Colin lost Joan in 2016.

Before his performance, Colin said of Joan: "We were like one person. I'm singing to her really."
