Everyone Is Obsessed With Netflix's New Psychological Thriller 'You'
It might have only been released on Boxing Day, but already everyone is talking about the series that sees Penn Badgley's character Joe Goldberg turn into the ultimate stalker.
Joe is managing a bookstore in downtown New York when he meets Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), who he becomes wildly obsessed with. Seriously, we mean obsessed.
You is based on Caroline Kepnes' novel of the same name and just over a week after its release, everyone is raving about it.
Just binged watched all 10 episodes of @YouNetflix and OH MY GOD. Don't want to spoil anything but I couldn't get off my laptop and the last 5 minuets of the last episode had me on an emotional rollercoaster. CANNOT wait for season 2 #YouOnNetflix #You #Netflix- kikigram (@kikigram2) December 27, 2018
Guys "you" has just hit Netflix and I watched it all a few months back and it's one of the best things ive ever seen! it's a creepy murder cute New York coffee shop and book store show with Shay Mitchell being gay again so I would highly advise everyone to watch #YouOnNetflix- Hannah:rainbow::heart: (@Rose_RosieChild) December 26, 2018
Just finished watching #YouOnNetflix. Great plot, acting, & brilliant story telling. It's so uncomfortable to watch considering that they made the main guy so creepy but at the same time likeable. I find myself rooting for him at some times and that's v unsettling to think about. pic.twitter.com/OLEotuQVAC- jen (@onihimesu) December 29, 2018
The series has been such a hit that it has already been commissioned for a second season, and it will follow the story of the sequel novel, Hidden Bodies.
What's more concerning than the fact Joe becomes immediately obsessed with Beck after their encounter is the lengths he's willing to go to, to place himself into her life.
For the most part, the storyline follows the book, however anyone who's read Kepnes' novel and watched the series will know, the ending differs.
* Warning spoilers ahead *
Like in the book, the series ends with Joe killing Beck (shocking, we know) but Candace, Joe's ex girlfriend turns up at his bookstore and tells him: "I think we have some unfinished business to talk about."
However, in the book Joe murders Candace on Brighton Beach in Brooklyn after she ended their relationship.
In the novel, Joe said: "It wasn't my fault that Candace followed me down to the water's edge and it wasn't my fault that I picked her up and held her down in the water and watched her pass on to the great beyond.
