Julia Robert's first foray into TV, Homecoming, started streaming on Amazon Prime at the beginning of November. But while fans are still raving over the first series of the 10-part psychological thriller , speculation is rife as to whether the Oscar-winner will take part in the second series.

The Amazon series comes from screenwriter, director and producer Sam Esmail and is based upon the 2016 Gimlet Media fictional podcast of the same name.

The series follows Julia's character Heidi Bergman, a counsellor and caseworker at the government-sponsored Homecoming initiative helping soldiers transition back to civilian life.

Walter Cruz (played by Stephan James) is one of these soldiers, eager to begin the next phase of his life. Overseeing Heidi and the facility is Colin Belfast (played by Bobby Cannavale), an ambitious company man whose manic demands point to questionable motives.

Four years after the events there, she's working as a waitress and living a quiet life with her mother, Ellen (played by Sissy Spacek) only to be tracked down by a Department of Defence auditor (played by Shea Whigham), who comes to her with questions about why she left the Homecoming facility, and her old life, behind.

The central mystery of the series is 'what went wrong' at the Homecoming facility, with Heidi recovering buried memories that lead her to question everything she knew.

The show gained three and four out of five stars from The Guardian and Rolling Stone respectively with Radio Times referring to it as an "addictive tale."

But it's the fan reaction which has been most enthusiastic.

With an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes the Critics Consensus states: "An impressive small-screen debut for Julia Roberts, Homecoming balances its haunting mystery with a frenetic sensibility that grips and doesn't let go."

However some viewers were confused about the intricate plot:

While Julia plays the lead character it's unclear whether she'll be returning for a second season. The Oscar-Winner's future on the show is reportedly open at the moment with a deal yet to be reached for her return according to TVLine.

Homecoming season 1 is streaming now on Amazon Prime.
