​Love Island’s Alex George Announced As Good Morning Britain’s New Doctor

Love Island's Dr Alex George has announced today that he will be Good Morning Britain's new daytime TV Doctor as he steps in for Dr Hilary Jones.

The junior doctor will start his new role next week and will be talking all things medical until Hilary returns from his summer break.

Alex, who worked in the A&E department of University Hospital Lewisham before Love Island, spoke about his passion for medicine with presenters Richard Arnold, Ranvir Singh and Charlotte Hawkins.

Speaking about his new role, Alex said: "I'm really look forward to it. I'm very passionate about my job, I love medicine, I love health and wellbeing, I'm really excited to have that opportunity to talk about topics.

"I'm passionate about the job. Of course, I'm going to be going back to the NHS, but in the meantime, I really hope that I can use the platform that I have to talk about things that are topical and effect people in everyday life.

"Particularly the younger generation - things relating to sexual health, mental health, body image... all kind of topics that I'd really like to discuss and talk to young people about."

Despite being unable to find love in the villa, Alex still managed to educate his fellow islanders on all things medical, including a graphic description of how a caesarean works.

During his conversation with the boys in the villa, Dr Alex described what a mother has to go through when she has a c-section leaving some of the lads horrified.

The A&E doctor told the lads exactly what he had to do when he helped deliver tots.

While explaining how he had to cut into the fat layer and then muscular layer with his scalpel, he said: "As you go you have to tear, what you don't want to do is cut muscle you want to tear it as it will heal better."

He continued: "Unfortunately you have to tear that, you both pull, the two surgeons until it comes apart.

"The big thing is bleeds like hell, you can lose litres of blood."

Good Morning Britain airs on ITV on weekdays at 6am.
