Sir David Attenborough has revealed he will present an 'urgent' one-off film called Climate Change - The Facts, which is due to air on BBC One this Spring.

The documentary will show footage that highlights the disastrous impact global warming is having on our planet - along with hard hitting interviews with climatologists and meteorologists who talk about the scientific reasoning behind the extreme weather - including the wildfires that swept California in November 2018.

It will also explore potential solutions to the threats our environment currently faces.

The BBC has said the film promises 'an unflinching explanation of what dangerous levels of climate change could mean for human populations'.

Director of content Charlotte Moore said: "There is a real hunger from audiences to find out more about climate change and understand the facts.

"We have a trusted guide in Sir David Attenborough, who will be speaking to the challenging issues that it raises, and present an engaging and informative look at one of the biggest issues of our time."

Attenborough has warned that we're seeing conditions changing 'far faster' than he could've ever anticipated when he began talking about the environment two decades ago.

In the documentary, the broadcaster says: "In the 20 years since I first started talking about the impact of climate change on our world, conditions have changed far faster than I ever imagined.

"It may sound frightening but the scientific evidence is that if we have not taken dramatic action within the next decade we could face irreversible damage to the natural world and the collapse of our societies.

"We're running out of time but there's still hope... I believe that if we better understand the threat we face, the more likely it is that we can avoid such a catastrophic future."

Last December, Attenborough issued a stark warning that climate change is 'our greatest threat,' that will lead to the demise of civillisation as we know it.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of United Nations-sponsored climate talks in Katowice, Poland, he said: "Right now, we are facing a man-made disaster of global scale. Our greatest threat in thousands of years. Climate change.

"If we don't take action, the collapse of our civilisations and the extinction of much of the natural world is on the horizon."
