The official trailer for chilling new horror Midsommar is here, and it's enough to send chills down your spine...
Directed by Hereditary's Ari Aster, Midsommar - Swedish for Midsummer - follows a couple who travel to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown "for its fabled mid-summer festival."

In the trailer, we see a wash of white hippie dresses, happy people dancing around a Maypole, a load of fresh-faced backpackers, before screams erupt.
The synopsis reads: "What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult."
Midsommar stars Jack Reynor, Florence Pugh and Will Poulter, and while the trailer doesn't give a huge amount away in terms of what's to come, it's clear the couple aren't going to get the happy-go-lucky festival experience they were hoping for.

The film is directed by Ari Astar, the man behind Hereditary, which was 'scientifically proven' to be the scariest horror film of last year after producers monitored the heart rates of film-goers watching the movie to see just how terrifying it actually is.
Hereditary centres on actress Toni Collette's character uncovering a pretty terrifying supernatural family secret, and it has been branded both 'harrowing' and 'unsettling' since it was released in cinemas in summer last year.

It has also been claimed that Hereditary is even scarier than The Nun, which had its trailer taken down from Youtube earlier this month.
In the study, the production team behind the film kitted Hereditary fans out with Apple Watches in order to monitor their reactions during the horror.
While your resting heart rate should be anywhere 60 and 80 beats per minute, some fans feasting their eyes on Hereditary had their heart rates raised to 164pm, which is well over double in some cases.

With Ari Astar also at the helm of Midsommar, we can only imagine just how scary it will be.
