Brooklyn Nine-Nine is officially back for a new season in 2021.

The big telly news was broken on social media in Captain Holt's voice for dramatic effect.

Announcing the news this week, they said: "*Capt. Holt voice* We're in a state of total euphoria. #Brooklyn99 returns in 2021 on @NBC, streaming on @PeacockTV."

Yaaaas.

The news naturally sent fans of the show - who have been waiting patiently for an update on its return - into a frenzy.

"FINALLYYYYY I AM WHEEZING YESSSSSS," one wrote.

Meanwhile, another penned: "I'll miss you so much til 2021 but im so excited !!!".

However, some thought it was a little too long to wait.

"There'll be no earth in 2021," one disgruntled fan joked.

While the 2021 date is for US audiences, the bad news is it'll be an even longer wait for UK viewers, and there is no official details about how long we'll have to wait after the US launch to watch it over here.

NBC is keeping quiet about exactly what to expect from the upcoming series, but what we do know is that the writers decided to start all over again with the scripts amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests in America.

Speaking to Access Daily, Crews said: "Our showrunner Dan Goor, they had four episodes all ready to go, and they just threw them in the trash. We have to start over. Right now, we don't know which direction it's going to go in.

"We've had a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations, and we hope through this, we're going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year. We have an opportunity, and we plan to use it in the best way possible."

It comes after he had previously urged B99 to address the political unrest in America, in particular the anger towards the police, since the death of George Floyd.

When asked whether the eighth season would be reflecting current events, including Black Lives Matter protests, Terry said they would be trying to.

"Definitely. We all got on a Zoom call just the other day because of what is happening in this country," he told Seth Meyers.

"We are witnessing so many abuses of power. We had some sombre talks and some really eye-opening conversations about how to handle this new season."

We can't wait to see how they handle everything. We're sure it'll be worth the wait.
