As the short evenings begin to creep in, one thing's for certain... there's a flood of incredible telly about to hit our screens.

And one series we're excited to sink our teeth in is BBC's new five-part thriller The Nest, starring Line Of Duty's Martin Compston and Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle.

The spine-tingling drama follows couple Dan (Martin) and Emily (Sophie), who live in a beautiful home outside Glasgow. All that's missing from their lives is a baby, but they've been trying for years with no luck.

However, their luck seems like it's about the change following a chance encounter with Kaya (played by Mirren Mack), an 18-year-old from the other side of the city, whose life is as precarious as theirs is comfortable.

When she agrees to carry their baby, it feels like they were meant to meet. The emotional thriller throws up troubling questions such as who is Kaya, and what has brought her to this couple?

BBC teased of the drama: "The Nest is an emotional thriller about love and money, and the price of being able to buy whatever you want".

Speaking about his casting, Martin Compston said: "I'm absolutely delighted to join the cast of The Nest.

BBC/Peaky Blinders

"Nicole Taylor [writer] is one of the most exciting and original voices in writing today, I'm chuffed we're finally working together. Combined with filming in Glasgow and going back onto BBC One in my native west coast accent makes it a dream scenario."

Alongside the leads, the show will also star Shirley Henderson, Katie Leung, David Hayman, Fiona Bell and James Harkness.

The series goes into production next month in Glasgow and you bet actor Martin will be using his native Scottish twang.

We can't wait to see how this unfolds, no doubt it will be a nail-bitter!
