The BBC has shared the first footage from the upcoming fifth series of Peaky Blinders in a sizzle reel for all of its 2019 dramas.

While we only get a few glimpses of Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby in the Birmingham-based gangster drama in the minute-long clip, the Beeb also teased footage from a whole host of other fan-favourite series such as Luther, Killing Eve and Poldark.

The sneak peek was shared on Twitter on New Year's Day, in a post which read: "If you thought 2018 was good, wait until you see what we've got in store for 2019."

Details on the new Peaky Blinders series are fairly thin on the ground as it stands, although new additions to the already starry line-up have been revealed in recent weeks.

Sam Claflin, best known for his role as Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games film series, was revealed as a new cast member for season five back in October.

Fans of the show were given a first look at Sam in his brand new role in a promo shot for the show.

Who Sam, who also starred Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean, will be portraying in the beloved gangster drama series hasn't yet been announced.

The actor joins newcomers Neil Maskell of Kill List fame plus Brian Gleeson and Game of Thrones' Kate Dickie.

Fans know that gang leader Tommy will be facing his 'darkest force yet' as he takes on the world of politics, with the story picking up after financial stock market crash of 1929.

Season five is set to focus on Tommy as he sets his sights on the British government.

The official synopsis reveals: "Series five of Steven Knight's crime family saga finds the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929.

Tommy will set his sights on the British government.

"Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy Shelby MP (Cillian Murphy) is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realises that his response will affect not just his family's future but that of the entire nation."

No word on an air date just yet.
