If you, like us, were craving a new crime drama movie to sink your teeth into, your luck's in.

American Woman is an upcoming film following the gut-wrenching story of a woman whose daughter goes missing - and the trailer is already giving us chills.

The film from Signature Entertainment centres on the story of Debra, a 32-year-old mother who faces every mum's worst fear when her teenage daughter goes missing in their blue-collared Pennsylvanian town.

Described as "one woman's gruelling odyssey", Debra, played by Sienna Miller, is left to raise her infant grandchild alone.

Set over 11 years, the film follows Debra's journey from the time her daughter vanishes, through the ups and downs of the following years, her romantic and personal relationships, and finally, the discovery of the truth.

Watch the trailer, and you'll get shades of Three Billboards Outside Epping Missouri mixed with The Missing.

You'll also get more than a glimpse at Sienna Miller's outstanding performance, which has been described as "the greatest role of [her] career" by Vogue. It's easy to tell why.

The film is directed by Jake Scott with screenplay by Bradley Ingelsby, and from the producers of Academy Award nominee Manchester By The Sea.

Further supporting cast include Will Sasso, Pat Healy, Alex Neustaedter, E. Roger Mitchell, Kentucker Audley, Aidan McGraw, Aidan Fiske, and Amy Madigan.

The film - which premiered at Toronto Film Festival in September 2018 - has received mixed reviews so far, with Rotten Tomatoes awarding it 83 per cent, and IMD 6.2 out of 10.

Speaking about Sienna's lauded performance in the film, director Jake Scott said: "Sienna expressed her fear from the outset. That complete openness and honesty seemed the only way to build the character.

"Actually, her fearlessness and determination to go deeper were revelatory. Trust was for me and I think Sienna, the essential factor."

American Woman follows the 37-year-old actress's 2018 film The Catcher Was a Spy, a biographical spy film based during World War II.
