Ainsley Harriott and James Martin are planning the return of iconic cookery show Ready Steady Cook after it was axed by the BBC almost 10 years ago.

The two celebrity chefs are in talks to revive the classic daytime series, according to Ainsley.

He told The Sun: "Me and James have been discussing it recently, he is at the forefront of the production side of things, and he is saying that people are talking about it.

"Fingers crossed they go for it. It's a unique format and there's nothing else on TV quite like it - it's so easy for people to follow. Me and James would do it, along with a raft of new chefs."

If you're unfamiliar, host Ainsley would task two groups - the red tomatoes and the green peppers - to whip up with a dish with a bag of ingredients worth just £5.

Each group would consist of a professional chef and a lucky contestant, and they had just 10 minutes to make a dish, making for intense television.

The programme ran from 1994 with Fern Britton originally hosting.

Legendary Ainsley went on to front the show from 2000, before the Beeb pulled the plug in 2010, much to the dismay of fans.

Here's hoping Ready Steady Cook returns!
