Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler's latest film Murder Mystery has broken Netflix records after it amassed over 30 million views in just three days.

The comedy, which reunites the Just Go With It stars, was released on the streaming site on Friday, 14th June, and proved to be a hit with fans, making it Netflix's biggest opening weekend ever for an original movie.

In the flick, Jennifer and Adam play a pair of newlyweds, hairdresser Audrey and police officer Nick Spitz, who head on a belated European honeymoon.

Keeping to the movie's title, they end up scrambling to solve a baffling murder aboard an elderly billionaire's yacht alongside Terence Stamp, Luke Evans, Gemma Arterton and David Walliams.

The movie was written by James Vanderbilt, who also wrote serial killer-thriller Zodiac, and was directed by Kyle Newacheck and Anne Fletcher.

Announcing the incredible feat on its Netflix comedy Twitter account, the streaming service wrote: "30,869,863 accounts watched Murder Mystery in its first 3 days - the biggest opening weekend ever for a Netflix Film.

"13,374,914 accounts in the US and Canada, and 17,494,949 more worldwide."

Netflix also confirmed the figures with a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

It's important to note that the service only counts a view when a user has streamed at least 70 per cent of the film.

While the streaming site rarely releases viewing stats, it tends to do so to highlight one of its original film or TV show's success.

Murder Mystery is now on course to overtake Sandra Bollock's Bird Box, which reached 80m views in its first month of release, as well as other Netflix originals Triple Frontier (52million) and The Highwaymen (40million).

Despite being a hit with fans, the film received an underwhelming score of 45 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Murder Mystery is available to stream now on Netflix.
