Teacher Learns A Unique Handshake For Every Single Kid In Her Class

Having an awesome teacher can make school less of a bore, but one has taken getting on with her students to a new extreme. She's learned individual greetings and handshakes for each and every student in her class...

You might say it's a bit lame, but if the kids are happy, then so should everyone else be.

And even if you don't think it's cool, at the very least it shows a great capacity for remembering things - there must have been a lot of work out into remembering each individual greeting. I mean, they could have put those man hours into something like - I don't know - learning maths or something that is actually useful to know about?

But I'm being too hard on them, and frankly, too cynical. If they want to do their silly handshakes and it keeps the kids happy, then fair play to them.

The teacher in question is called Jerusha Willenborg and she is a third grade teacher from Kansas in the United States of America. She says that the tradition started four years ago when one of her students said that he wanted them to have a special handshake.

Eventually, the routines started getting more and more elaborate and then every single one of her kids wanted one. There's 22 kinds in her class, so she's got to remember 22 special handshakes. How does this woman find the time in the day?

She said: "The kids don't always make good choices. They are amazing kids, but you know, they're kids. At the end of the day, they give me their handshake, whether they had a good day or not, they leave that day knowing I still care about them."

Fair enough, I guess that's a nice enough thing to do.

The greetings are all about hip bumps, fist bumps, waves, slaps, clicks and high fives. It really is a sight to behold.

The kids obviously love it.

One of them, a girl called Harmoni, said: "It makes me feel like Miss Willenborg has my back,"

Well, if it keeps them all happy, then more power to them.
