Toe-Curling Moment Perrie Edwards Is Asked Why The Saturdays Were Snubbed From BRITs Speech

We're more obsessed with Little Mix than ever before - and we have good reason to be, after their historical win at the BRITs.

The trio won the trophy for Best Group, becoming the first girl band in the award ceremony's 25 year history to do so.

And in true iconic form, Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards said the award was in honour of the great girl bands that came before them - the Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, Sugababes and All Saints.

However, some viewers why The Saturdays did not receive a shout out in the speech, and now, thanks to Matt Edmondson, we know why.

The cheeky comedian addressed Perrie live on air about the sitch on his BBC Radio 1 breakfast show - which he hosts alongside former member of The Saturdays, Mollie King.

And naturally, this is where it got awkward.

Explaining why The Saturdays was left off the list of great girl bands, Perrie explained: "Do you know what, when we were in the dressing room, I did flag this. I did say, 'We're going to have to list The Saturdays.'

"And then Jade said, 'What about Bananarama? What about all the greats?'

"We then said we can't stand there and list every single girl band. Do four and move on! And we were like, fair enough."

Quick to reassure Mollie that The Saturdays hadn't been forgotten about or snubbed, Perrie added: "Honestly, Mollie, I had your back, don't you worry."

Matt humorously responded: "In a way, I think that makes it worse. Because it was considered, and then it was cut!"

However, it's clear that Mollie has taken the whole situation in good humour, as she was heard chuckling along throughout the conversation.

In their speech, Little Mix thanked fans for their unwavering support, and also gave a special mention to their former bandmate Jesy Nelson - who recently left the group.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock read: "We have been together for 10 years. It's been the best years of our lives. We've gone through so much. We've had so much fun and made so many incredible memories.

"We wanna start by thanking our incredible fans, of course, Jesy, and then our amazing team.

"It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We've seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity. We're proud of how we've stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever."
