Natalie Imbruglia announced she welcomed her first child after IVF with a sperm donor on Tuesday (8th October).

The 44-year-old singer took to Instagram to share the momentous news with a candid photo of her holding her newborn son's hand.

In the post, she revealed his sweet name, Max Valentine, and how her "heart is bursting" with joy since his arrival.

She penned along the heart-warming shot: "Welcome to the world... Max Valentine Imbruglia. My heart is bursting #myboy".

In July, Natalie announced she was pregnant with her first child, after undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) with the help of a sperm donor.

IVF is a process where the egg and sperm are combined outside of the body and left to fertilise for several days, before it is implanted into the uterus.

At the time, she told her fans on social media: "For those of you who know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time.

"I'm blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor."

After announcing her news on Instagram, Natalie's picture was flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and several of her famous friends.

While Louise Redknapp commented: "Congratulations babe so happy for you xxxxx."

"Yay!!! Hello, Max! Welcome indeed. So glad you're here safe and sound. Congratulations, mama!!" shared Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

The Aussie star first found fame in the early 1990s, when she played Beth Brennan on soap Neighbours.

After leaving the Australian TV show, she began a solo music career and released the much-acclaimed single Torn in 1997.

Natalie married to Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns in 2003 after initially meeting at an awards show in 1999. Sadly, the couple split in 2008.
