Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall Is In Talks To Play Princess Jasmine
It's safe to say that Aladdin was the Disney film of our childhoods - the dreamy songs, the Arabian landscape... Genie. Oh, Genie. RIP Robin Williams, you are missed.
So when Guy Ritchie announced he was doing a live-action remake of Aladdin, I was stoked. It's about time!
First we heard Will Smith was in talks to play Genie - definitely casting magic - and now Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall is apparently shortlisted to play Princess Jasmine.
Jade is a huge Disney fan - her Insta is full of Mickey Mouse ears and trips to Disneyland so it makes sense for her to be in one of their iconic films. She even said that Princess Jasmine was her fave Disney Princess! This is fate. Wonderful! Magnificent! Glorious! Punctual! Ahem.
In March, a casting call was put out to find Middle Eastern actors for the lead roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, looking at potentials from the age of 18-25. As Jade is 24 and of Yemeni and Egyptian ancestry on her mum's side, it's almost too good to be true. She can already sing and dance and she's got killer abs that would look great in Jasmine's iconic turquoise crop top.
I can just see Jade cuddling up to a giant tiger. I wonder if it will be CGI?
But what does this mean for Little Mix?
Not only does playing Princess Jasmine in the live-action remake mean months of rehearsals and filming, but then there's the heavy promotional tour afterwards. It would seriously detract from her role in Little Mix. The band are already in the middle of a tour and are about to release a single with Grime superstar Stormzy.
But luckily it seems that the girl band are there for each other. Apparently there have been some emotional talks, and they're down to support Jade's upcoming role. Hopefully she won't have to take too much time out the band!
She just has to nail the role now. We're counting on you, Jade!
