This week marked Rihanna's 33rd birthday, which means, naturally, Twitter has been awash with tributes to the singer and beauty mogul's incredible successes.

The gushing posts have been flying in for the 'Umbrella' hitmaker, and amongst them, one Twitter user highlighted her age in a bid to debunk the rush that many women feel to be a mother.

"Rihanna is 33 with no kids. Y'all hear me?," the inspiring viral Twitter thread read.

However, it didn't take long for the trolls to emerge and put their two cents in.

This tweet led to a thread of Twitter users criticising Rihanna (

One such example is a man, who responded to the original tweet and said: "Is this supposed to be an accomplishment?!?!?!"

And naturally, Rihanna fans proceeded to shut him down.

One wrote: "Men still thinking women's happiness depends on whether they have children or not.. in 2021.. weirdo behavior".

While another woman responded to the man's rather disapproving tweet and explained: "It's a reminder for people to stop minding women's ovaries & pressing people to rush to have babies".

Many Twitter users took the opportunity to emphasise that young women - including Rihanna - should not feel stressed or pressured by society to have children by a certain age.

"I think the point is that one of the most beautiful, successful women in the world isn't a mom in her 30s, so other young women don't need to stress it, because there's so much pressure around it, as the comments on this thread illustrate," a third wrote.

As a fellow Twitter user chipped in: "It is not a requirement for women to have kids. please get educated".

"You don't need kids to make you happy. dont put that type of pressure on a kid to fulfill your happiness. you should be happy with yourself before deciding to have kids (sic)," said somebody else.

Amen to that.

In Vogue's May 2020 issue, Rihanna spoke about her business ventures including Fenty Beauty, and also addressed her plans to have children in the future.

The pop singer said she does want kids one day, when the time is right.

When asked whether she'd still have children if she hadn't found the right partner, she said: "Hell, yeah. I feel like society makes me want to feel like, 'Oh, you got it wrong...' They diminish you as a mother if there's not a dad in your kids' lives.

"But the only thing that matters is happiness, that's the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That's the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love."
