Gary Barlow has opened up about his eating disorder during a candid interview with Ross King this morning on Lorraine.

The singer and songwriter spoke about his secret battle with bulimia post Take That, where he reached 17 stone.

During the interview he revealed details about his health, ego and his so-called rivalry with former bandmate Robbie Williams...

Speaking about hitting 17 stone after Take That, Gary admitted he didn't sing for nine years. He said: "I Just turned my back on it. I was trying to kill off the popstar, that's what I was doing.

"I was eating away what a popstar looked like. So I didn't look like a pop star. I was just killing him off. And by not singing I was putting the nail in the coffin. I liked it, I liked doing it.

"I stopped dying the hair, stopped buying nice clothes, just wanted to look the opposite, physically and mentally."

Gary then lost 18lbs years later after meeting diet gurus Melissa and Jasmine Hemsley who put him on an 'easily digested' food diet.

The musician revealed: "2003 - it was the day when I just went, 'No, I'm not having this anymore, I'm going to change. I want to change and I'm determined that this is not who I've become'.

"I't only took a few years to get that low, but it took me years to get back to who I wanted to be. 10 years probably.

"The fight back up is much harder than the one going down. In some ways it sort of needed to happen.

"I had that ridiculous 90s period where the ego was just getting bigger and you just think, 'there's only one way back from this and it was down'."

Gary also spoke about his reported 'rivalry' with Robbie, who has just become a dad-of-three through surrogate.

He said: "We'd both say it's not a rivalry, but you know it is. I'm completely fine as long as I sell one more copy of my new album... I mean, no, honestly we're probably in the best place we've ever been.

"We talk a lot. We email a lot. I think those days are over, I really do."
