Cheryl has broke her silence following 'relentless abuse' after her performance on The X-Factor over the weekend received a lot of negative comments and 15 Ofcom complaints.

The singer performed her comeback single 'Love Made Me Do It' on Sunday night's episode, which saw her provocatively lick her tattooed hand before rolling around on the floor.

Since the performance, Cheryl says she has been subject to a wave of relentless abuse online and that it should 'not be tolerated in any walks of life'.

Cheryl also pointed out that she watched her performance and 'loved it', but she realises her performances might not be for everyone.

Posting on Twitter, the popstar wrote: "I wanted to start by saying thank you all so much for your lovely comments and support for my performance on Sunday.

"You may not have read about them but I definitely saw and felt them.

"Having spent 16 years in the public eye I have always been accepting of people's opinions. Me personally, my music and performances are never going to be for everyone. And that's OK."

Cheryl then continued to point out the abuse she received.

She added: "I let a lot of things lie but the sheer level of unbalanced negativity towards me in the tabloid press these past few days has been quite frankly shocking and I need to address it.

"This level of relentless abuse should not be tolerated in any walk of life."

Cheryl also called out some of those that had sent her abuse for being the first to condemn online bullying.

She finished the statement, adding: "Ps... I did watch my performance back and I loved it!"

After receiving these negative comments, Cheryl then shared a video of her sashaying backstage at The X Factor with the caption: "Walking away from negativity like."

However she has since disabled all comments from her Instagram page.
