Teen Girl Humiliated After 'Costa Staff Laughed At Her Name'
A Welsh teenager was left 'humiliated' after she was refused a job at a coffee shop 'because of her name'.
Jordanna Ellsmore, 17, applied for a job at her local branch of Costa Coffee in Neath, South Wales, by handing in her CV on Monday, 4 June.
She said she spoke with a staff member, who said that they were not hiring at the time, but would attempt to find some hours for her. That was the end of the matter, or so she thought.
She left after giving in her CV, only for a friend who was also in the coffee shop to message her saying that the staff in the branch had ridiculed her name after she left.
The friend who messaged her said: "I was in Costa when you came in asking for a job. As soon as you walked out they all started taking the piss out of your name, saying that your name lets you down and that they won't hire someone with a name like that."
Jordanna, from the nearby village of Glynneath, said: "I was honestly humiliated. I'm only 17 and I didn't understand that that stuff happened. I know it's a weird name, but it's not very nice."
"Since then I've been hired and one of the first things my manager said was how much of a lovely name I had. It was a horrible thing to say."
Costa Coffee were contacted in the wake of the incident and said that they had spoken to the staff in question about their treatment of Jordanna.
A Costa spokesperson said in a statement: "We've spoken with the team locally who are really upset to learn they had offended a potential new team member.
