We’ve all had some bizarre celebrity crushes, but a list of MTV’s hottest guys from 2005 has just resurfaced – leaving many people super confused.
That year also saw YouTube upload its first video, Mariah Carey was making her big musical comeback and Brad and Angelina had their rumoured romance whilst making Mr & Mrs Smith.
Whilst it was undoubtedly a simpler time, it seems our crushes seem to hinge on how well men wore eyeliner or low-rise jeans.
First published in Seventeen magazine, the list shows some of the biggest nominees for MTV Video Music Awards, with readers gushing about their celebrity crush.

However, the top four contenders may surprise, with the majority of heartthrobs being part of the punk rock and indie sleaze scene.
Just sneaking into the top four is My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, with superfan Serenity gushing about how 'mournful' he sounds.
She writes: “His voice is so beautiful and mournful. Plus I have a thing for guys who aren’t afraid to wear makeup.”
Whilst we aren’t against guys being in touch with their emotions (the exact opposite, in fact), it might get a little gloomy listing to Welcome to The Black Parade on repeat.

Meanwhile, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers takes the second place, with 18 per cent of readers loving the ‘Mr Brightside’ singer – it is a total banger, so we can’t blame them.
“The way he talks, sings and laughs is just sexy,” adds 18-year-old Natalie,“No one can move the way he does!”
He shares the spot with Real Slim Shady, aka Eminem, with 14-year-old Janeene fangirling about him as a single dad rather than his sexiness.
Taking the top spot though, is Billie Joe Armstrong, with 14-year-old fan Jensen, who refers to the Green Day frontman as an ‘angel’, albeit a ‘very angry one’. (We can see that, to be fair.)

Whilst the list might have made sense in 2005, many people are confused as to why these men took over the top four – with a list that also includes 50 Cent and Common.
In fact, the magazine section has sparked a fresh debate after it was uploaded to Reddit earlier this week.
One user even brutally wrote: “17 year old me did not find any of them attractive. 35 year old me doesn’t either.” (Ouch!)

Others agreed with another adding: “I’m surprised Pete Wentz isn’t on this list since ‘Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down’ was on repeat on MTV in 2005. I was so into him thanks to that video.”
A third even posted: “Stunned that Common only got 1 percent.”
We guess 2005 really was a simpler time.
