While we probably all should take an interest in public affairs, it can be all too easy to get bogged down by politics - however, there's one election that we really wish we'd gotten more involved with.
In a day and age where people are more divided than ever before with their political views, one town in California seems to have gotten it just right it comes to pleasing everyone with its new mayor.
The town of Idyllwild has gone a step above the rest by allowing a Golden Retriever to become its mayor, because let's face it, people probably feel they can trust a four-legged friend more than they trust other people in politics, although we won't name any names.
Maximus Might Dog Mueller II or just Mayor Max to the people of Idyllwild - has been in office for an impressive five years and we can't believe this hasn't caught on in more places around the world yet.

However, Maximus isn't the first pooch to take the title of mayor in the town of Idyllwild, as Max's uncle actually became the town's first mayor back in 2012.
"Six years ago, Idyllwild decided to elect its first mayor," Phyllis Mueller, Mayor Max's Chief of Staff, told ABC.

"You had to be a local resident, but you couldn't run yourself, you could run your pet. In a voted election, 14 dogs and two cats ran and we decided to have an election to raise money for the animal rescue. So you paid $1 a vote and you were encouraged to vote a lot."
Doesn't Idyllwild just sound like an incredible place to live?
The adorable doggo mayor is often seen driving round the town his Pimp My Ride style pickup truck, because obviously he needs to travel in style.

"His role is to make the world a better place by conveying unconditional love and doing as many good deeds for others," Mueller continued.
"My role as the chief of staff is to help run the vision of the mayor's office for Idyllwild, so we actually run an actual mayor's office."
Perhaps the rest of the world could learn a thing or two from Idyllwild.
