An animal charity is on the hunt to find the chubbiest cats, dogs and rabbits to join its slimming club.

PDSA, a UK veterinary charity, has launched a search with its Pet Fit Club competition to help some of the country's plumpest pets lose a few pounds.

Over the past 14 years, the contest has helped 85 dogs, 42 cats, eight rabbits and two rats lose a total of 75 stone.

And this time around, up to 15 overweight pets will be chosen to participate in the animal slimming club.

Those selected for the Pet Fit Club competition will be placed on a strict six-month diet and exercise programme which has been individually tailored to each pooch, feline, bunny or rat. Vets and veterinary nurses will be overseeing the programme at local PDSA pet hospitals.

Not only will the animals get into shape, but they will also be given diet pet food for the entire duration of the competition.

If you would like to enter your pet into the competition, you can apply online here or by calling our Pet Fit Club team on 01952 797246.

To enter, you'll need to give your beloved pet's name, species, breed, age, sex, and weight. The form also asks you to describe a typical day's diet and exercise for your pet, detail what you think has caused their weight gain, and list any of their health problems.

Entries for the Pet Fit Club are open for a couple more weeks, closing on Sunday, 3rd March 2019.

Last year saw two doggos, Borris and Sadie, be crowned joint-winner of the competition, and two cats, Chester and Pepsi Cola placing second.
