There Is A Genetic Reason Behind Finding 'The One'

There Is A Genetic Reason Behind Finding 'The One'

It's apparently nothing to do with the fact they don’t judge you for binge watching a whole series on Netflix back to back.

Some people believe in fate or love at first sight, but apparently there is a genetic reason behind finding 'the one'.

According to a recent study, how attracted you are to somebody actually all comes down to the science linked to your genetic coding.

I know you are probably thinking that you fall in love with their sparkling blue eyes, their hilarious personality or the fact they don't judge you for binge watching a whole Netflix series in one go, but bear with me.

Here's the science part. All humans have their own unique human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex, and this is what helps the immune system to determine which cells are your own and which are unwanted viruses or bacteria.

However, a group of scientists have found that these cells are very influential when it comes to the laws of attraction.

Researchers studied attraction patterns in 254 couples and found that having a partner with a different HLA complex "correlates with sexuality and enhances the desire to procreate".

So, this basically means opposites really do attract, and may determine how sexually attracted you are to your partner.

Researchers in the study also found that it might be the reason behind why you think your partner smells amazing (even if they really, really don't).

Apparently, most couples in this test were much more inclined to think fondly of their partner's odour if their HLA's were different.

However, the researchers did note that as the preferences for odour were self-reported, it may have been influenced by the fact that the couples were already in a relationship and smitten with one another.

So, if you are on a mission to find 'the one', then 'Hey, baby what's your human leukocyte antigen complex?' should be your new chat up line next time you're out.
