A woman from Western Australia has shared a cleaning hack on how to make drains sparkle just by using a bottle of tomato ketchup.

After noticing that her drains needed a bit of sprucing up, the woman squirted tomato sauce all over them before leaving it for 10 minutes.

She then used a cloth to wipe away the sauce and her drains were left looking pretty sparkly.

Amazed with the transformation, she shared her new hack on a cleaning Facebook group. She wrote: "I let it sit for 10 minutes and wiped it with a microfiber cloth. I'm pretty happy with the results. Might give it one more go."

Other members of the group were left impressed with the cleaning capabilities of the household product, however some were confused about how it works.

One member explained: 'It's a mixture of acids in the sauce that bring up the metals so well."

Some members also suggested adding salt to the mixture to exfoliate the dirt of the plug hole next time.

However, cleaning your drains and dipping your chips isn't the only thing tomato sauce is good for.

According to Life Hacker, our favourite condiment is also great at correcting green highlights in bleached hair.

If you are blonde and have swam in a pool full of chlorine then Charles Worthington says it could help bring your blonde back from green.

He told Grazia: "For blonde hair that has gone green from chlorine or salt water, shampoo your hair as normal, then rinse Tomato ketchup through your hair and leave it on for about 5 minutes."

Good Housekeeping also suggests that it is great at getting your car looking shiny. Although it doesn't remove dirt ketchup can help to buff your car up a little.

You can also polish copper and silverware with ketchup so if you're jewellery is looking a little bit lifeless then you can leave it to sit in a puddle of sauce for a bit.

Once some time has passed just pull it out and give it a thorough rinse before leaving to to dry and your favourite rings will look good as new.
