We Made These DIY Lava Lamp Lip Glosses To Bring Back The Nineties

Ah, the nineties. What a time to be alive.

The Spice Girls were blasting out of our Walkmans and our rooms were plastered with Boyzone posters and lava lamps. We coated ourselves in body glitter and fluorescent lip gloss, and spent our spare time boogying on the dance mat. If you didn't wear your hair up in cute spiky buns, you weren't worth hanging out with!

Those were definitely the days, everything seemed so much simpler. The only make up trend back then was bright blue eye shadow and coloured hair paint; there was none of this highlight and contour business!

It's no secret that everyone misses those 90's days, so here at P52 we are bringing it all back to you better than S Club ever did, with these amazeballs Lava Lamp Lip Glosses!

Testing out this super cool idea that's doing the rounds on Pinterest, we tried out this funky DIY to see what the fuss was all about!

You'll need:

  • Castor oil
  • 2ml Glycerine
  • Eyeshadow
  • Roller lip-gloss canisters
  • Battery powered UV light (optional)

Step One:

Pour the castor oil into the lip-gloss canister, about a centimetre from the top.

Step Two:

Next, grind down some of your favourite, or old, eyeshadow and place it into a glass or pot. Add about 2ml of glycerine to the shadow and mix, you may need more glycerine but just use as much as you think it needs.

Gently drop the shadow/glycerine mixture into the canister filled with oil. You can do this using a teaspoon or a pipette.

Once you have about 8 drops or so, pop the canister lid back on and watch the magic happen.

Step Three OPTIONAL:

If you're feeling really fancy, you can all glue a small battery powered UV light onto the bottom of your canister to make true 90's style lava lamp lip-gloss.

Verdict:

Not only are they one of the coolest DIY's you'll ever try, they're possibly the easiest too. However, let's be honest, they're not all they're cracked up to be, so I'm slightly disappointed. That said, they make great 90's gifts, and are a great activity to do with your little girls at their next sleepover!
