Yesterday, Tinder caused outrage by announcing they were introducing height verification, which they said would bring the "honesty back into dating" and end "height-fishing". The prank was just an April Fool's Day joke, but perhaps predictably, the men of the internet did not respond as we would have hoped.

Appalled by the suggestion of height verification, men on Twitter lashed out, saying if they were going to get tested on their height, women should get tested on their weight, and that women's boobs and bums should be verified too.

One man wrote: "Girls getting tilted cus guys are saying 'we need weight verification' now that height verification is a thing on tinder bruh, if u get to swipe left on my short ass I should be able to swipe left on ur fatass [sic[", while another vented: "Just wow. @Tinder have introduced a height verification system to body-shame men. Can't weight for them to weed-out fat women with silicone tits, tattooed eyebrows, fake tan and dyed hair!"

Another Tinder user even took to Reddit to rant about the proposed changes, writing a lengthy post entitled: "If Tinder is implementing a height setting for men, they should implement a weight setting for women."

In his post, he wrote: "Tinder just announced a setting for men to show their height, under the reasoning that too many men lie about their height on the app and as they put it, are 'height fishing' women.

"I can just about guarantee they won't do a f*cking thing about weight for women. I have friends who have been fat fished. That's essentially the same damn thing."

The prank, which took place yesterday, was unveiled by Tinder as a way to end "height-lying". The app put out a statement that said: "It's come to our attention that most of you 5'10ers out there are actually 5'6. The charade must stop. This type of dishonestly doesn't just hurt your matches - it hurts us, too.

"Did it ever occur to you that we're 5'6 and actually love our medium height? Did it ever occur to you that honesty is what separates humans from sinister monsters? Of course not.

"You were only thinking of yourself. Well, height-lying ends here. To require everyone under 6' to own up to their real height, we're bringing truthfulness back into the world of online dating."

As predicted, it turns out the talk of verification was just a joke, so can everyone please calm down and stop attacking each other over height, weight, boob size and all the other ridiculous insults that were thrown around?

In the words of Tinder: "Happy April Fool's Day! While we aren't really verifying height, we encourage all Tinder users to keep an open mind while on the app. Sometimes your most unexpected match can lead to amazing things." Amen.
