Redheads are apparently more likely to have sex, and sexual partners because they're the best in the sheets, according to a study.

That's according to a study by Hamburg sex researcher Professor Dr. Werner Habermehl, which looked at the sex lives of hundreds of German women and then compared the results with their hair colour,

"The sex lives of women with red hair were clearly more active than those with other hair colour, with more partners and having sex more often than the average," Habermehl says, quoted in the Daily Mail. "The research shows that the 'fiery redhead' certainly lives up to her reputation."

Habermehl also added that non-redheaded women who dyed their hair red were putting out the signal that they were looking for a partner.

"Even women in a fixed relationship are letting their partners know they are unhappy if they dye their hair red. They are saying that they are looking for something better."

Those are some seriously bold claims - potentially relationship-destroying claims - but Psychologist Christine Baurmanns explains that it might not just be the women who were to blame for redheads' enviable sex lives.

"Red stands for passion," she says,"and when a man sees a redhead he will think he is dealing with a woman who won't mess around, and gets straight to the point when it comes to sex."

And if getting laid more wasn't enough, it turns out that redheads also have genetic superpowers... kinda. A McGill University study showed that redheaded women can tolerate up to 25 percent more pain than those with other hair colours, while the University of Louisville also found that it takes 20 percent more general anesthesia to put a redhead under. 'Ard as nails, these lot.

And if those aren't enough cold hard facts to persuade you, researchers at Erasmus University in Rotterdam - who studied the faces of almost 2,700 elderly Dutch Europeans - discovered that those with a variation of the 'ginger gene' (or MC1R, if you wanna get technical) looked on average two years younger than their actual age.

Sure, the blondes may be having more fun, but while they've been busy doing that it seems the redheads have become the true winners after all.
