It's tradition to eat Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and chocolate eggs for Easter. But now it's time to get out your diary out and put away your wallet, because on Friday, 1st March 2019 Greggs will be handing out both meat and vegan sausage rolls in London for free.
The PR stunt-cum-new public holiday (we're calling it) comes courtesy of Deliveroo, celebrating its sixth birthday.

At the end of last year, the London-founded food delivery company twinned up with Greggs to finally bring sausage rolls and cheese and onion bakes directly to your home, office or wherever else you have a craving for baked carbs (zero judgement).
Unfortunately the event is only happening in the Capital but rolls will be given away near the following branches of Greggs on Friday morning:
- Holborn
- The Strand
- Cheapside
- Southampton Row
- Ludgate Hill
- Paddington
- Chancery Lane
- East Cheapside
- Whitechapel
- Victoria Coach Station
- Earls Court
- Elephant and Castle
- Clapham High Street
- Shepherd's Bush.
6,000 sausage rolls might sound a lot, but if you think about how many hangry/hungover commuters London has pouring out of its stations, they'll be gone before you can say "sorry, is this one meat or vegan?".

Unless you've been living under a rock since Christmas (and hey, you do you) you'll know Greggs launched a vegan-version of its famed sausage roll last month. And naturally, Twitter went berserk.
As well as the the meaty variety you can now pick up a succulent, meat-free sausage encased in 96 layers of pastry (we counted) to tantalise your taste buds.
The best part: theres not a crumb of ethical guilt and you can grab them from your local Greggs for just £1.

The vegan sausage has been created by the bakery chain alongside plant-based experts Quorn using mycoprotein, and a delicious seasoning combination.
Vegan puff pastry made from vegetable oils surrounds the sausage, and the usual milk which gives the savoury treat a glossy finish has been ditched completely.
But if you weren't one of those who flocked down to Greggs in the past month to be one of the first to give it a whirl, thousands took to Twitter to declare that it's truly worth the hype.

Of course, there's a few people who have taken issue with the vegan sausage roll (*ahem* Piers Morgan), sparking a debate fiercer than Brexit over on Twitter.
But meat-free deliciousness gets a yes from us - 2019 year is off to a solid start already. And it tastes even better when it's free. Happy Friday.
