This Woman Wants To Bring Back Ready Salted Chipsticks

There are some people that we can't help but admire for going above and beyond to see the change we want in the world.

And if your cause is crisps, or specifically, Ready Salted Chipsticks, then Gill Winestone is your spokeswoman.

Yes, Gill is perhaps the biggest fan of the now-discontinued crisps and she's doing just above everything she can to bring them back.

We all know Chipsticks, those crunchy, chip-shaped corn snacks that are so packed with salt and vinegar they make you pull a funny face when you eat them. They only come in Salt and Vinegar these days, but they used to come in Ready Salted flavour, too.

Leeds-based Gill is so passionate about the Ready Salted version that she's started a blog dedicated to her plight and a petition to bring them back which already has over 3,000 signatures.

On her blog, Gill recalls fond memories of back-in-the-day when she could get her hands on the flavour, such as one occasion when she took 10 bags round her friends' for a movie night for her own consumption.

The hilarious blog post reads: "Any time that I was in the vicinity of a Co-op, I would pop in and buy somewhere between three and fifteen bags of Ready Salted Chipsticks. One instance this was just before a movie night round a friends flat, so when I walked in with my tasty snacks (approx. ten bags this time), they mistakenly thought that I had brought a bag for everyone.

"I stopped mid-step, hesitated; I was wondering how to politely refute this, whist still being able to keep all my Ready Salted Chipsticks and not be judged for being a greedy slob as they watched me eat the entire ten bags during the course of one film.

"Unfortunately though my face gave some of this train of thought away. It settled itself in an expression that was a mixture of appalled, horrified and conflicted, which did not go unnoticed by the seven or so people in the room. I had to explain how hard they were to come by, and how infrequently I was able to secure such a score."

It finished: "Thankfully I have very forgiving (though not forgetful) friends and the judgement was replaced by a sense of awe of how I could manage to scarf ten bags to myself without batting an eyelid, with the added bonus that no one ever asked me to share again."

Gill's main target is Walkers, who now owns the crisps, who she often emails and spams with tweets.

"Walkers have said it's a lack of demand that meant they were discontinued so hopefully this petition will show them there is demand and that they should reinstate them" Gill told Metro. "I started the petition about three years ago.

"It was quite a slow burner to start with, but it has really picked up in the last year or so and now we're at more than 3,000 signatures.

"Recently it has gone up again with Matt Lucas signing and retweeting the link. It's been a really great thing to get his support."

Explaining what it was about then that she was so mad about, Gill added: "I've always loved them, I don't like vinegar flavoured ones, so there's no other option for me. Honestly there is no other readily available alternative out there.

"It's hard to pin down what makes your favourite of anything, but taste, texture, and the general yumminess of them. I do miss them so much!"
