Gifting your beau a petrol station bouquet of flowers picked fresh off the forecourt doesn't quite cut it anymore. But don't rush off to your nearest florist just yet if you really want to impress, as you might want to head down the canned and jarred goods aisle of your local supermarket instead.

Pickle bouquets are the latest Valentine's Day trend to emerge, and they are created entirely out of the love-them-or-loath them vegetable (or fruit, whatever you want to label it).

States-based company Grillo's Pickles has created the bouquets just for the day of love, made out of pickles, cloves of garlic and peppers with a few spruces of dill added in.

"We know there are a lot of pickle lovers out there that would love nothing more than to get a Valentine's Day gift loaded with their favorite snack," the company behind the bouquets explained to Metro.

"Not only is a pickle bouquet more beautiful than a dozen red roses, and healthier than a standard box of chocolate, it's also far more creative."

According to Grillo's Pickles which runs its pickle business in Boston, the bouquets are the first of their kind.

And they are arguably much more value for money than a regular bouquet of flowers as you can eat them as a snack (although you might want to skip the highly poisonous Lily of the Valley which has been added in purely for decoration).

Unfortunately, the $45.99 (£34) pickle bouquets are only available for delivery in the Boston area, although you could easily make your own at home.

All you need it wooden kebab skewers, a jar of pickles, garlic, peppers and dill.

Pierce each vegetable with the skewer, using it as a stem.

Garnish the bouquet with some fresh herbs, which will also help bulk them out, tying the bunch together with some Valentine's Day-inspired string.

Et voila, the perfect gift for the pickle lover in your life.
