"I didn't realise pancakes and gravy was such a 'weird' thing until I moved from Sheffield to Manchester when I was 18!"

It's Ash Wednesday, which means most of us are still recovering from our pancake induced food coma, but what toppings did you have?

Some people kept it traditional with their lemon and sugar, while others went for an American approach with bacon and maple syrup... Meanwhile, others were dousing their pancakes with gravy and it's fair to say opinions are divided.

Pancake eaters took to Twitter to debate whether the savoury Sunday dinner topping should be associated with the Shrove Tuesday and things got heated.

However, some people were quick to liken pancakes and gravy to Yorkshire puddings and gravy, which definitely doesn't make it seem as strange.

Shrove Tuesday is a Christian practice to use up all the eggs and fats before embarking on the 40 day fast that is lent, so arguably you should be allowed to indulge in whichever toppings you'd like.
