UK restaurant chain Frankie and Benny's has banned customers from using their mobile phones while eating.

The Italian-American chain's move is part of their No Phone Campaign, which aims to bring families together without the interruption of apps.

The campaign is running from 29th November to 7th December.

When diners enter the restaurant, they will be asked to deposit their phones in a "no phone zone" box at the table, where it will stay for throughout their meal.

A spokesperson for Frankie and Benny's said: "We looked at various ways we could encourage people to engage more at the dinner table, and we've found giving families the chance to part with their devices for a mere couple of hours is a great way to bring them closer and embrace family time."

Diners will be able to opt-in to the campaign and those who participate will be offered free kids meals.

The chain has launched its festive menu, which includes a classic turkey roast with all the trimmings, as well as dishes including the vegan "not dog", popcorn prawns and the ultimate mac "n" cheese and pepperoni pizza.

The festive set menu is priced at £13.99 for 2 courses and £16.99 for 3 courses.

For those booking for groups of six guests or more before 20th December, the organiser will receive a free meal for two to use in January.

Earlier this year, a mum sparked a debate over whether teens should be allowed access to smartphones, after questioning if their time spent online should be monitored.

Technology has become a huge part in almost everyone's lives, with one in four kids under six-years-old owning a phone.

But one worried Mumsnet user has sparked an ongoing debate for revealing that she doesn't plan on allowing her teenagers to have smartphones or use the internet without supervision.

"I seem to be the only person in the world who thinks teenagers are too young to own one," she said.

"They are expensive, too easy to be used without supervision. Cause thousands of arguments, and expose teenagers to bullying, grooming and porn."
