Woman Reveals Stunning DIY Stairs Transformation After Puppy Destroys Carpet

Puppy proofing your home can be an absolute nightmare. If they're not ripping apart the sofa they're pulling up the carpet, and their antics can not only make a mess but also be unsafe.

But one doting dog owner and her husband thought of the perfect solution when their pooch Nanci started tugging on their carpeted stairs in an attempt to eat the underlay.

Removing the carpet altogether, the couple, Sandra and Mark Young, opted to completely redesign their stairs so that they no longer had to worry about their pup.

And it was a win/win situation, as the result ended up looking stunning, too.

In place of their once plain brown carpeted stairs, the duo now have exposed wood steps with patterned tiles instead.

Just look at the end result.

Speaking to Pretty 52 about the redesign, Ipswich local Sandra Young revealed how her husband achieved the gorgeous new look with nothing but some super cheap £10 vinyl stickers and some varnish from B & Q.

Revealing just how simple it was, she said: "[My husband] sanded the stairs, varnished with three coats then stuck on the sticky vinyl."

She went on to share pictures on Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK - and the post soon racked up an impressive 9,000 'likes'.

"After our puppy kept loosing the carpet to eat the underlay it had to go," she told members of the group.

"So after seeing a post on here, my husband sanded down the stairs varnished them the used 2 rolls of sticky back vinyl from b&q costing £10 a roll, with the varnish £28.99 altogether and it is not slippery at all. I'm in love".

It wasn't just dog owners who flooded to the comments, with many putting practicalities aside and simply wanting to copy the design because it looked so great.

"That is beautiful...stair envy in full swing over here," one person wrote in the comments.

Meanwhile another agreed, tagging their friend and writing: "This looks so nice! We should do something similar in the new house."

At £10 a roll, we might just tile our whole home now, tbh.

Thanks for the inspo, Sandra and Mark!
