Spray Tanner Criticised For Charging More To Women Who Aren't Size 8
The spray tanner claimed it was her 'policy' that an additional $20 (£15) would be added on the normal cost of $35 (£26), because the customer revealed she was a size 10 to 12, rather than the beautician's usual size 8 customers.
But, it got much worse when the anonymous woman suggested that if the client didn't want to pay more then she should "lose a little." Wow.
The conversation started when the client messaged: "Hey girl! I noticed you didn't have a price list on your Insta and was wondering how much the 1 hr express spray tan?"
"Hey hun. It's $35 for a 1 hour express. I just had a look at your Instagram and I'm just wondering what size you are??" the beautician replied.
"Oh haha, I'm a size 10-12 AU why is that?" she asked, clearly confused.
The spray tanner explained: "My regular clients are a max size 8. It'll be $20 extra as there's more surface area if you know what I mean."
Surprised by the supposed surcharge, the client then took to a Facebook group to ask whether it was standard procedure among professional spray tanners to charge more.
But, the spray tanner must've seen the post, and sent another message saying: "Yeah hi I saw your post in advice and just wanted to say that if you don't want to pay a $20 surcharge maybe lose a little!
"Not trying to be mean, it's just the industry x."
Since the client made the messages public, social media users have been 'disgusted' by the spray tanner's 'policy.'
One person wrote: "I am a professional spray tanner and this absolutely disgusts me!
"The whole point of our job is to make every single person that walks into our studio feel beautiful and confident in their own skin! Nobody should be made to pay extra based on their size."
A second person quite rightly questioned: "What does she charge for height as well? Like sorry you're like 7 foot, that's an extra $20."
"It's just this greedy self absorbed person claiming to be a professional," wrote a third person. "People like this are the reason sooo many others refuse to get a professional spray tan because they think they will be judged or shamed!"
It's fair to assume the client didn't go ahead with booking the tan...
