How many times did you unlock your phone to ask Google a question this year? Every time we have a problem, question, or desire, it's second nature to Google it.
The search engine giant just released its 2018 Year in Search and when it comes to beauty-related questions, we were all obsessed with one thing: lashes (they took the top three spots). And the top trending beauty search of the year? How to apply magnetic eyelashes.
This innovative lash format promises easy application and removal - it's all about the sandwiching technique. One strip goes under the natural lashes, and a second fits along the top of lashes. The magnetic top lash will instantly lock in place with the magnet in the bottom lash to create a volumised look that's totally pain and glue free (meaning they're also better for the environment).
So why are we all Googling how to do it? And why are so many influencers including lash applying pro Guru Tati Westbrook and Ellarie finding them fiddly?
Here's a few tips on how to make your magnetic lashes stay put:
- Lash giant Ardell advises not to curl your natural lashes. The upturned lash tip can push the magnetic bases away from each another.
- Ardell also suggests, as with regular false lashes, cutting the lashes in half to ensure a more accurate fit and accented doe-eyed look.
- "I find it best to apply mascara to the lashes first to act as a tacky base to hold the top lash in place initially," says Tabby Casto, London Makeup Artist and Eylure ambassador. " Then use the lash applicator tool to help place lashes as close to the natural lash line as possible."
- And to remove them, gently pull the false lashes apart with your index finger and thumb without yanking- no cleansers or wipes required.Eylure
Optometrists agree that this glue-free method means you'll lose fewer lashes per application and the risk of eye conditions like styes, allergic blepharitis, keratoconjunctivitis, and conjunctival erosion are lower than with extensions and glue ons. However you do need to be careful how frequently you apply them as adding the weight to your lashes long-term can result in traction alopecia. Best save them for special occasions.
